In June 2023 three cute lynx kittens were born in Skansen in Stockholm. The photos were taken in the late Summer. There’s also a video of the newborn cubs in the end of this article.
It’s hard to tell if this baby is yawning or screaming …. Whatever – he/she is very cute.
The following photos of this sweet family were taken in November 2023 – February 2024.
The parents are Athena and Lookie. Athena was born at Skansen in 2021, the last litter of the previous lynx pair. Her father was wild-born, so she is genetically valuable. Papa Lookie was also born in 2021, he comes from Kolmården.
Don’t they look beautiful in the snow?
A trip to the Napland with mama.
Something interesting in sight?
The kids are almost as big as their mama now.
This kitten seems to be waiting for more snow. 🙂
For Athena, the maternal instincts were already working at her first birth. Her mother failed with the first two litters, but then it went well. (It’s not unusual for felines to fail a few litters).
I don’t know the gender of the kids or their names yet.
These cats are excellent climbers. Maybe mama Athena wanted some peace and quiet for a change and escaped to a tree …
However, she’s keeping an eye on her off spring all the time.
The kids are now almost as good climbers as their mama. 🙂
This one prefers to stay on the solid ground. 🙂

Only three days old!
Dear Krister!
Thank you for these marvellous photos of the beautiful lynx family! You could almost believe they were taken in the wild. It would be too nice if they had enough space in their natural habitat again and could raise their young undisturbed.

Dear Krister!
Thank you for the wonderful pictures. Lynxes are the beautiful animals.

Hello Mervi,
hello Krister.
Lynxes are beautiful and unfortunately very rarely endangered in the wild in Europe.
The natural whelping den for the newborns is great and you can only see their natural diversions after zooming in.
Many thanks for the enchanting photos and best wishes!

Dear Krister
The lynx family is adorable.
I found it interesting to see how cute they were as little rascals and how they are now – almost as big as their mum – already grown up and still have nonsense in their heads.
Thank you and many greetings,
Anita
