Peak Wildlife Park in February – Part 1

7.2.2024 by Pat Waldron

It is 6 months since my first visit to the Peak Wildlife Park to see Hope, Nanook & Noori and I was not disappointed. They have settled in extremely well since being relocated from Orsa Park in Sweden and looked very happy in their new environment.

The family were in the rear enclosure when I arrived, all having a great time in the water.

When the keeper arrived they all headed for the fence where they snacked on the fruit & vegetables to replenish energy levels.

Hope knows the apple a day keeps the vet away!

The boys now look almost as big as mum…..just 20kg lighter according to the keeper.

Hope decided to check out the den, closely followed by Noori, whilst Nanook went back to playing with his toys.

After visiting the other animals in the park, I headed back to the bears to find they had been moved into the main enclosure.

Hope, Nanook and Noori have lots of enrichment in their enclosures.

Hope wanted to join her boys in the water.

Hope & Noori (I think), were on the wood chips and Nanook was playing in the water again.

Noori (who is still much closer to Hope) eventually joined him, leaving mum to have a little snooze.

The boys spent a long time in the water and had a great time playing / sparring with each other, occasionally checking to see where mum was.

Hope’s sister Tala loves to play with a canu and it looks like Nanook and Noori has inherited the ‘family interest’ in boats. 🙂

Following her little snooze, Hope moved across to the boys to keep a closer eye on them.

Hope is a good mother and never leaves her kids out of sight – not even now that the boys are quite big.

Having spent a lovely day at the park, I am already looking forward to my next visit!!

  1. Dear Pat,

It’s good to see and read that the bears are doing well and have settled in well after the move from Orsa Park. There are plenty of toys in all colours, they want for nothing.
Perhaps they would prefer to roll around in the snow, but they also like splashing around in the water. A surfboard (?) is of course a great attraction!

Many thanks for your report and best wishes

  2. After having watched and read this most entertaining and informative report with gorgeous and as funny as touching pics also I am looking forward to your next visit, photos, and REPORT.

    Thank you Pat WALDRON a n d
Thank you MERVI for bringing this to us

  3. The 2 photos with the wood chips/fir branches are very cute!

And I love also those with the pink coloured crazy egg, the ‘framboise’-coloured canu (proofing the ‘family-interest in boats’ -SMILE!), as I llove those with the lilac thingie AND any of the ‘rest’ of the pics :-))) . . .

  4. Dear Pat!

  5. Dear Pat and dear Mervi!
There are many scenes and occasions that make our hearts sing while watching polar bears: when we see little polar bear cubs, when a mother is affectionate with her little ones or when they make themselves comfortable and finally fall asleep relaxed. But my personal favourite moments are when they receive a new toy, are obviously delighted with it, examine it curiously and then play with it enthusiastically.
Thank you for many of these great scenes from the Peak Wildlife Park! I’m really pleased that the three of them are doing so well!
However, what I think about those responsible for the closure of the Predator Centre in Orsa is not fit for print…

    Hugs

I am delighted that Hope and her boys are settling in well

  7. Dear Pat and dear Mervi

Your visit to the bear family was very nice.
The animal enclosure looks just great. It’s big and green and the pond invites you to splash around and play.
Like all polar bear moms, Hope is very careful and always keeps an eye on her cubs.
I am delighted that Hope and her offspring have found a new home here. It couldn’t have been better for the family.
Thank you for your great pictures and the great report.

    Hugs,
    Anita

Die Drei haben wirklich einen optimalen Platz bekommen und ich hoffe, dass die Familie dort noch eine ganze Weile zusammenbleiben wird…
