My heart goes out to you and all Knuti’s readers on hearing the very sad news of Miki after her journey to the UK with mum Ewa. I too am truly saddened and hope that Ewa will eventually settle in and be happy.
When I heard a number of months ago that Polar Bears were going to be re-located to two sites in the UK, I hoped it would be the Orsa Park polar bears but one could never imagine this tragic outcome.
A few weeks ago, I visited Hope, Nanook & Noori at the Peak Wildlife Park to bring you news of their new home. I will also visit Ewa in the next few months, when allowed, to bring you news of how she is doing too.

Unfortunately, not so long thereafter, we all received that sad news about Orsa and its closure. And now this!!!! Nobody will ever hear me say that there was an ill intend because heart problems/weakness cannot always be found in advance. Also, I am quite sure that the keepers did all they had to do to ensure a smooth travel. But alas, the stress was apparently too much for this little girl.
Nevertheless, I must say that i am more than happy to read about all other animals from orsa that now found a new home.

I am very sad about the death of Miki.
You can see very well what a great stress it is for the animals to have to move. Often the animals still get anaesthesia and then wake up in a cage. What a traumatic experience…

Miki had a heart condition according to her autopsy and as with humans it is impossible to say when this can cause death..
The closure of Orsa Park remains a great tragedy and Miki’s picture should be posted to Gronklitt at every opportunity.

How long we waited with Ewa for her baby and were happy about Miki. Now her relocation to England has not turned into a happy ending and has even cost young Miki her life – a tragedy that might have been avoided with better precautions for transport with a lighter sedation.

I am deeply upset and shocked!

Thank you Jens, for the link from your 2022 visit to Orsa, where mother and daughter had a lovely life in a fantastic environment.

I wish Ewa the best of luck in her new home, where she may soon have company.

Liebe Mervi,

wie lange haben wir bei Ewa auf ihr Baby gewartet und uns über Miki gefreut. Nun ist aus ihrer Umsiedelung nach England kein Happy End geworden und hat der jungen Miki sogar das Leben gekostet – eine Tragödie, die bei besserer Vorsorge zum Transport mit einer leichteren Sedierung vielleicht zu vermeiden gewesen wäre.

Ich bin zutiefst besürzt und schockiert!

Danke Jens, für den Link von deinem Besuch 2022 in Orsa, wo Mutter und Tochter ein schönes Leben in einer fantastischen Umgebung hatten.

Ewa wünsche ich viel Glück in ihrem neuen Zuhause, wo sie vielleicht bald Gesellschaft bekommt.
