I’m sure none of us could have imagined a year ago what the year 2007 would be like! We didn’t know that a little polar bear and his keeper would change our lives totally.
For me personally the whole thing started in March when I started following the development of our fluffy friend on daily basis. The severe knutitis hit me when I visited Knuti for the first time in May. Since then my life has changed in so many ways.
I became an active blogger quite late, in July, because I’ve always had my doubts about this blogging thing. What a wonderful surprise it was to meet all the beautiful Knutians! We come from different countries, we speak different languages, we have different religions but still we have so much in common!
I must confess that I’ve always thought women couldn’t have such fun together. Oh boy, was I wrong!! The wonderful sense of humour all the Knutians show sometimes takes my breath away. I’ve been trying to find an explanation why the women in their best age can be so funny. Maybe it’s because we have so much life experience and don’t take ourselves too seriously. We are not afraid of making fools of ourselves. I think the real humour is being able to laugh at oneself …as well as to others, of course…hahaa…
Yes, we have lots of fun but we also share our sad moments. I think the kind words from other Knutians had helped many of us during difficult times.
We have created a world that allows us to let our inner child out. We have a wonderful “playground” where we can be ourselves! Who needs the shrinks when we have each other!!
The main thing connecting us is our love to Knuti and Thomas Dörflein who “gave” us our little bear. But being a Knutian means so much more. We are all aware of the threats towards our planet and try to act to prevent a big disaster. Knuti has became a symbol for all our efforts and made us try even harder to save our beautiful planet! I believe we can influence even other people to think more of our environment and our animal friends! We are a powerful lot!!
My friends sometimes (read: all the time) shake their heads when they hear I’m writing to a polar bear several times a day. I feel so sorry for them because they have no idea what it means to be a Knutian! It’s not so easy to explain this phenomen to “outsiders”! Like I’ve always said it takes a Knutian to understand another Knutian!
I wonder, too, if we knew what creative skils we all possess before we became Knutians! Just think of all the poems, stories, collages and webbsites we been able to read and admire during the last year. Think of all the photoaunties/uncles who have spent days – in pouring rain and extreme heat – taking pictures and sharing them with us!! Thank you, all!!
The high light of 2007 was, of course, Knuti’s first birthday! Knutians came to Berlin from all over the world to celebrate our beloved Knutito. Incredible! What a party! What memories! I came to Berlin two days after the birthday but I had a great time, anyway! To see little Knuti – he is smaller than I thought – and meet so many Knutians – what more could I possibly desire?? Who could have thought that I would be standing in a pouring rain and having the time of my life….

We have all heard about the Wild West but now there’s a new expression: The Wild Herd! I think we should be very proud of that name! In my opinion it says a lot about us: We are a powerful lot of beautiful, dedicated people who aren’t afraid of speaking our mind if we feel it’s necessary! And I believe our voice is heard!! We may be a little crazy but I think there should be more of this kind of crazyness in the world.
